BMW Motorrad has revealed the Vision CE, a radical electric urban mobility concept vehicle designed to deliver dynamic personal transport without requiring a helmet or protective riding gear. Built around a single-occupant footprint, the design study explores futuristic safety and self-balancing technology for dense city traffic.

The Vision CE incorporates an integrated padded tubular steel safety cage that forms an overhead and lateral protective structure around the rider. Combined with a four-point seatbelt system, the enclosure is engineered to keep the occupant secure within the chassis cell in the event of an impact.

Self-Balancing Systems and Safety Architecture

A key technological pillar of the Vision CE is its active self-balancing mechanism. The system automatically maintains the electric vehicle in an upright position both at a complete standstill and while moving at low speeds, eliminating the necessity for riders to place their feet on the ground when stopping at traffic signals.

Although the concept includes a traditional side stand for stationary parking, the self-balancing technology allows the scooter to remain fully stabilized without manual foot support. The single-seat layout features dual disc brakes at the front and rear, connected to a mid-mounted electric motor via a belt-drive system.

  • Vehicle Type: Single-occupant electric concept / design study
  • Rider Safety: Integrated tubular steel cell with a four-point seatbelt
  • Active Tech: Gyroscopic self-balancing system at low speeds and standstill
  • Drivetrain Layout: Mid-mounted electric motor with belt drive

Concept Status and Production Intent

BMW Motorrad has introduced the Vision CE strictly as a technology demonstrator and design study. The manufacturer has not published technical specifications such as motor output, battery capacity, maximum speed, charging performance, or estimated riding range.

While the design study echoes structural principles previously explored in BMW's historic C1 roofed scooter, the company has not confirmed production timelines, commercial availability, or retail pricing for global markets.

What We Still Don't Know

Because the BMW Motorrad Vision CE is a conceptual study, official details regarding battery architecture, real-world weight, motor specifications, safety crash-testing certification, and commercial production plans remain unannounced by the manufacturer.

AkulRide Verdict

The BMW Motorrad Vision CE represents a thought-provoking glimpse into the future of helmet-free electric urban commuting. By merging structural rollover protection with automated self-balancing tech, BMW continues to challenge traditional two-wheeler conventions, even as practical production viability remains distant.
