Suzuki Motor Corporation has officially launched its first mass-production battery electric vehicle (BEV), the e VITARA, at the EICMA 2024 in Milan, Italy. Production of the e VITARA is set to begin at Suzuki Motor Gujarat in India in spring 2025, with sales expected to roll out across various countries, including Europe, India, and Japan, by summer 2025.

The e VITARA is based on the concept model “eVX,” which was showcased at the Auto Expo in India in January 2023 and at the JAPAN MOBILITY SHOW in October 2023. It represents Suzuki's first global strategic BEV model designed for a diverse range of markets and customers.

Design and Features of the Suzuki e VITARA

The e VITARA is built with the concept of an “Emotional Versatile Cruiser” in mind, combining advanced technology with rugged SUV strength. Here are the main features:

1. High-Tech & Adventure Design

The e VITARA boasts a unique design theme of “High-Tech & Adventure”, blending the futuristic feel of a BEV with the toughness of an SUV. This theme is reflected in its exterior, with large-diameter tires and a long wheelbase, while the interior showcases an integrated display and advanced equipment, delivering a modern yet rugged experience.

2. Efficient BEV Powertrain

Powering the e VITARA is an advanced BEV powertrain that integrates the efficient eAxle, which combines the motor and inverter. It uses a lithium iron-phosphate battery for enhanced safety and reliability, providing nimble acceleration from a standstill and sharp performance during overtaking maneuvers.

3. Electric 4WD System - “ALLGRIP-e”

The e VITARA features the ALLGRIP-e electric 4WD system, a key highlight of Suzuki's expertise in four-wheel drive technology. The system incorporates two independent eAxles at the front and rear for enhanced performance. Additionally, it includes a Trail Mode that improves off-road performance by distributing torque to the opposite tire when needed, ensuring smoother navigation through rough terrain.

4. HEARTECT-e Platform

The e VITARA is built on Suzuki's newly developed HEARTECT-e platform, specifically designed for BEVs. This platform features a lightweight structure for better efficiency, high-voltage protection for safety, and maximized interior space, all while maintaining the vehicle's dynamic performance.

Comment from President, Suzuki

President Toshihiro Suzuki shared his thoughts on the launch of the e VITARA: “The e VITARA is our first BEV, developed through rigorous trial and error to offer a practical and user-friendly electric vehicle for our customers. As part of Suzuki's commitment to a carbon-neutral society, we aim to offer a wide range of mobility options, including BEVs, hybrid vehicles, and CNG vehicles tailored to specific regions. The e VITARA is a major milestone in achieving Suzuki's vision for a sustainable future, and we will continue to expand our BEV lineup globally.”
