Ford has detailed the 2027 Expedition lineup for the US market, with starting prices from $63,920 for the full-size three-row SUV. The latest model year brings a Platinum-exclusive 30th Anniversary Appearance Package, new exterior colours, a standard 24-inch panoramic display and the multifunction Ford Split Gate across the range.

The 2027 Ford Expedition is available in four core trims: Active, Platinum, Tremor and King Ranch. Buyers can also choose the extended-wheelbase Expedition MAX in Active, Platinum and King Ranch configurations, creating seven model configurations across the standard and longer body styles.

Ford continues to offer two versions of its twin-turbocharged 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6 engine, producing 400 horsepower or 440 horsepower, depending on the model. The Tremor receives the more powerful engine as standard, while the Platinum offers it as an option. Maximum towing capacity reaches 9,600 pounds on appropriately equipped configurations.

2027 Ford Expedition Prices and Model Options

Ford's US website lists the following starting manufacturer's suggested retail prices (MSRPs) for the 2027 Expedition range.

Model Starting MSRP (US) Standard Engine Key Features
Expedition Active $63,920 3.5L EcoBoost V6, 400 hp 24-inch panoramic display, 13.2-inch centre display, Trailer Tow Prep Package and 18-inch wheels.
Expedition Platinum $70,870 3.5L EcoBoost V6, 400 hp Leather-trimmed heated and ventilated front seats, heated second-row seats, 20-inch wheels and BlueCruise.
Expedition Tremor $82,720 3.5L EcoBoost High-Output V6, 440 hp 33-inch all-terrain tyres, electronic-locking differential, Rock Crawl mode and off-road underbody protection.
Expedition King Ranch $83,015 3.5L EcoBoost V6, 400 hp 22-inch Sinister Bronze wheels, Del Rio leather upholstery, 22-speaker B&O Unleashed audio and power-deployable running boards.

The extended-wheelbase Expedition MAX provides additional space for passengers' luggage and other cargo. Its starting prices are $66,920 for the MAX Active, $73,870 for the MAX Platinum and $86,015 for the MAX King Ranch.

These are starting MSRPs for the US market. Optional equipment, packages and dealer charges can affect the final amount buyers pay.

2027 Ford Expedition Engine Options and Performance

The 2027 Expedition uses a 3.5-litre twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Ford offers two engine output levels to distinguish the regular family-oriented models from the off-road-focused Tremor.

The standard engine produces 400 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque. It is fitted to the Active, Platinum and King Ranch models, while the Tremor receives the 440-horsepower High-Output version as standard. This upgraded engine generates 510 lb-ft of torque and is available as an option on the Platinum, including the MAX Platinum.

Rear-wheel-drive-based 4x2 configurations and four-wheel-drive models are offered, depending on the trim. Ford has also made 4x2 available on the Platinum and King Ranch for 2027. The Tremor comes with four-wheel drive as standard to support its off-road positioning.

Maximum towing capacity is listed at up to 9,600 pounds when the Expedition is properly equipped with four-wheel drive and the Heavy-Duty Trailer Tow Package. The actual rating depends on the model and configuration; the standard Trailer Tow Prep Package should not be confused with the equipment needed to achieve the maximum rating.

Expedition Tremor Combines 440 hp With Off-Road Hardware

The Expedition Tremor is designed for buyers who need more off-road capability from a full-size family SUV. Its standard 440-horsepower High-Output V6 is paired with hardware specifically intended for rougher terrain.

  • 33-inch all-terrain tyres: Designed to provide traction on a wider range of surfaces.
  • Electronic-locking differential: A 3.73 electronic-locking differential helps improve traction when conditions become challenging.
  • Rock Crawl mode: A dedicated drive mode for low-speed off-road conditions.
  • Underbody protection: Modified Raptor-inspired front and transmission underbody skid plates.
  • Off-road exterior: A distinctive grille with auxiliary lighting and Amber Active-painted tow hooks.
  • 18-inch wheels: Dark Carbonized Gray-painted aluminium wheels with Electric Spice accents.

The Tremor also features black Raptor-inspired platform running boards and distinctive cabin trim. It includes BlueCruise hands-free highway driving equipment, giving the model both off-road hardware and assistance technology for compatible highways.

For buyers who want higher engine output but prefer a more luxury-oriented SUV, the Platinum offers the 440-horsepower V6 as an optional upgrade.

30th Anniversary Appearance Package Marks Three Decades of Expedition

Ford is marking the Expedition's 30th anniversary with a new Appearance Package available on the 2027 Platinum and Expedition MAX Platinum. The package introduces model-specific styling details rather than changes to the SUV's underlying powertrain.

Its highlights include 30th Anniversary exterior badging and unique 22-inch Ebony-painted bright-machined aluminium wheels with an anniversary centre cap. The package also makes Blue Ember Metallic paint available exclusively for this Expedition package.

Ford has also added two new exterior colours to the wider 2027 lineup: Bronze Fire Metallic Tinted Clearcoat and Nocturnal Blue Metallic. Availability varies by model, and Blue Ember Metallic is reserved for the 30th Anniversary Appearance Package.

The anniversary package provides a more distinctive appearance for buyers choosing the Platinum, which otherwise combines premium cabin materials with the standard 400-horsepower engine and the option of the High-Output V6.

24-Inch Panoramic Display and Ford Digital Experience

The 2027 Ford Expedition features a standard 24-inch panoramic display positioned high on the dashboard, alongside a separate 13.2-inch central touchscreen. The system runs Ford Digital Experience and allows drivers to customise the information displayed, including navigation, vehicle data and entertainment content.

The 24-inch display is standard across the lineup, including the entry-level Active. This means buyers do not need to move up to the more expensive Platinum or King Ranch to receive the large panoramic screen.

The multifunction Ford Split Gate is another key practical feature. Its powered upper and lower sections can be configured for different loading needs, while the gate can also serve as a loading platform or a place to sit. An Open On Approach function is available, allowing the gate to respond when the user approaches the vehicle under supported conditions.

The available Flex Powered Console can slide backwards to improve access and storage flexibility for second-row occupants. Ford also provides a digital device holder designed to make it easier for passengers to use compatible devices during longer journeys.

BlueCruise Availability Across the 2027 Expedition Range

Ford BlueCruise, the company's hands-free highway driving assistance system, is equipped on the Platinum, Tremor and King Ranch. It is available as an option on the Active. The same broad availability pattern applies to the corresponding MAX models: BlueCruise is optional on the MAX Active and equipped on the MAX Platinum and MAX King Ranch.

On compatible roads within designated Blue Zones, BlueCruise can assist with steering, acceleration and braking while the driver remains responsible for the vehicle. The system is not fully autonomous, and drivers must continue to monitor the road and be ready to take control.

Ford lists a one-year-plus-90-day BlueCruise plan with the King Ranch models. Other trims and equipment packages have different plan or trial arrangements, so buyers should check the specific vehicle configuration and the terms in effect at purchase.

The King Ranch also distinguishes itself with 22-inch Sinister Bronze wheels, Mesa Del Rio leather with Kingsville stitching, power-deployable running boards and a 22-speaker Bang & Olufsen Unleashed audio system. The Platinum and Tremor feature a 10-speaker B&O system as standard, with higher-end audio equipment available on selected configurations.

Expedition MAX Offers More Cargo Space

The standard-wheelbase Expedition measures 209.9 inches in length, while the Expedition MAX extends to 221.7 inches. The longer body provides up to 11.8 inches of additional cargo length and increases cargo capacity behind the third row from 22.9 cubic feet to 37.4 cubic feet.

Ford lists maximum cargo capacity of 108.5 cubic feet for the standard Expedition and 123.1 cubic feet for the MAX when the rear seating rows are folded. With the third row in use, the additional room in the MAX can be particularly useful for families travelling with luggage.

Seating capacity depends on the trim and seating layout. The Active models offer seating for up to eight as standard, while the Platinum and Tremor generally come with seven seats and can be configured for eight. The King Ranch is listed with standard seven-passenger seating.

The third row features PowerFold functionality, allowing it to fold to open up more cargo space. The Platinum and King Ranch also add power-folding second-row captain's chairs, while the Active provides a standard second-row bench.

2027 Ford Expedition Fuel Economy and Towing

Contrary to the assumption that EPA figures are still unavailable, Ford's current US website lists estimated fuel economy for the 2027 Expedition. The company states that 4x2 versions generally deliver 16 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway, while 4x4 models are rated at 15 mpg city and 22 mpg highway.

These figures can vary by model, drivetrain and equipment. Buyers should confirm the rating for their chosen configuration rather than assume that every Expedition or Expedition MAX has identical fuel consumption.

Towing capability also varies by model and equipment. While Ford advertises a maximum of 9,600 pounds for appropriately equipped Expedition configurations, the MAX Active with 4x2 is listed for up to 6,300 pounds. Buyers planning to tow a trailer should verify the specific vehicle's rating and required towing package before purchase.

AkulRide Verdict

The 2027 Ford Expedition retains its role as a large, three-row family SUV but offers meaningful choice across its seven standard and MAX configurations. The entry Active starts at $63,920 and includes the 24-inch panoramic display, while the Platinum adds more comfort equipment and the option of the 440-horsepower V6.

The Tremor is the most distinctive choice for buyers who need serious off-road-oriented equipment, combining standard four-wheel drive with 33-inch all-terrain tyres, an electronic-locking differential and dedicated Rock Crawl mode. At the luxury end, the King Ranch brings distinctive leather trim, bronze-finished wheels and a premium 22-speaker audio system.

The 30th Anniversary Appearance Package adds a further point of distinction for Platinum buyers, while the Expedition MAX makes more sense for families prioritising cargo capacity. With updated colour choices, BlueCruise availability and clearly differentiated trims, the 2027 Expedition offers a broad range of configurations. Its best value will depend on how much engine performance, premium equipment, off-road capability and cargo space buyers actually need.
