BMW M Team WRT completed a recovery drive at the penultimate round of the FIA World Endurance Championship (FIA WEC) at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in Spain. Starting 16th on the grid, the #15 BMW M Hybrid V8 driven by Kevin Magnussen, Dries Vanthoor, and Raffaele Marciello crossed the finish line in seventh place.

Hypercar Class Performance

Both BMW M Hybrid V8 entries experienced pace deficits during qualifying. The #20 Shell BMW M Hybrid V8 qualified 13th, while the #15 car started 16th. During the race, Magnussen moved forward in wet conditions before receiving a ten-second time penalty for contact, handing over to Vanthoor in 13th position.

Vanthoor progressed to fifth position on a drying track. Following a late splash-and-dash refuelling stop, Marciello concluded the race in seventh. Conversely, the #20 car driven by René Rast, Sheldon van der Linde, and Robin Frijns suffered low tyre pressure requiring an unscheduled pit stop, followed by a 20-second time penalty, resulting in a 14th-place finish.

LMGT3 Podium and Results

In the LMGT3 category, the #69 BMW M4 GT3 EVO driven by Dan Harper, Parker Thompson, and Anthony McIntosh climbed from 15th on the grid to finish third. This marked the trio's third podium of the season following prior rostrums at Imola and São Paulo.

The sister #32 BMW M4 GT3 EVO of Augusto Farfus, Sean Gelael, and Darren Leung started sixth but dropped to 12th place following race penalties.

Championship Standings

With a one-two race finish in Barcelona, Toyota officially secured both the FIA WEC Hypercar manufacturers' and drivers' world titles. BMW M Motorsport retains second place in the manufacturers' standings with a 24-point margin over third place heading into the season finale at Monza.

In the drivers' standings, Magnussen and Marciello advanced to third place, while Rast and Frijns sit tied for fourth. Pricing is not stated in the official announcement.

AkulRide Verdict

BMW M Motorsport demonstrated solid recovery execution in Catalonia despite starting from compromised grid positions. While pace limitations and operational penalties eliminated its mathematical title contention against Toyota, maintaining second place in the Hypercar championship and capturing an LMGT3 podium reinforces the team's operational resilience heading into the season finale.
