Kawasaki has announced the 2027 Versys 900 SE LT ABS for the US market, with a starting MSRP of $13,599 before destination charges and other fees. The sport-touring motorcycle combines a 948cc inline-four engine with long-distance touring equipment, updated styling and new radar-based rider assistance systems.

The 2027 Kawasaki Versys 900 SE LT ABS introduces an all-new steel trellis frame, a five-inch TFT colour display and Advanced Rider Assistance Systems (ARAS) to the Versys family. Standard equipment includes hard side cases, heated grips, hand guards, LED fog lamps, frame sliders and a centre stand. The motorcycle is scheduled to reach US dealerships in March 2027.

948cc Inline-Four Engine and New Chassis

The 2027 Versys 900 SE LT ABS is powered by a 948cc, liquid-cooled, DOHC, 16-valve inline-four engine. Kawasaki has tuned the engine to deliver accessible low- and midrange torque alongside strong performance at higher engine speeds, making it suitable for commuting, back-road riding and extended touring.

The short-stroke engine has a 73.4mm bore and 56.0mm stroke. Electronic throttle valves manage fuel delivery and airflow, while a lightweight crankshaft and secondary balancer contribute to responsive acceleration and smoother operation. An assist and slipper clutch reduces lever effort and helps limit rear-wheel hop during rapid downshifts.

A major change for 2027 is the introduction of a steel trellis frame designed to balance responsive handling with stability during touring. Kawasaki targets a near 50:50 front-to-rear weight distribution. The motorcycle also has an aluminium swingarm and a rigid rear frame designed to support a passenger and luggage. The stated total payload capacity is approximately 485 pounds.

Suspension, Wheels and Braking

The Versys 900 SE LT ABS uses a 43mm inverted front fork with 5.9 inches of travel. Rebound damping and spring preload can be adjusted at the fork. At the rear, a horizontal back-link suspension system provides approximately 6.3 inches of wheel travel, with adjustable rebound damping and a remote, hand-operated spring-preload adjuster.

These are adjustable conventional suspension components rather than Kawasaki Electronic Control Suspension (KECS). The model's electronic technology instead focuses on engine management, traction control, braking support and radar-based rider assistance.

The motorcycle rides on 17-inch wheels fitted with Metzeler SPORTEC 01 tyres. Braking equipment consists of twin 310mm front discs with radial-mount, opposed four-piston monobloc calipers and a 260mm rear disc with a single-piston caliper.

An inertial measurement unit supports cornering-related braking functions through Kawasaki's anti-lock braking system and Kawasaki Cornering Management Function (KCMF). These systems use chassis information to help manage braking and wheel slip, including when the motorcycle is leaning into a corner.

Radar-Based Rider Assistance Technology

The 2027 Versys 900 SE LT ABS is the first model in Kawasaki's Versys family to introduce Advanced Rider Assistance Systems. Front and rear radar sensors support Adaptive Cruise Control Lite (ACC Lite), Forward Collision Warning (FCW) and Blind-Spot Detection (BSD).

ACC Lite uses forward-facing radar to help maintain a selected following distance from a vehicle ahead. It can reduce throttle opening when the gap narrows and increase throttle as the gap opens. Riders can select Near, Medium or Far following-distance settings.

Importantly, ACC Lite does not apply the brakes. The rider remains responsible for braking when stronger deceleration is required or traffic slows substantially. Forward Collision Warning can display an alert when the system detects a potential collision risk, while Blind-Spot Detection uses rear-facing radar to warn of vehicles detected in adjacent blind spots.

Kawasaki also includes three traction-control modes, selectable power modes and integrated riding modes. Sport, Road and Rain modes combine different power and traction-control settings, while Rider mode allows individual selections. The Kawasaki Quick Shifter supports clutchless upshifts and downshifts.

Five-Inch TFT Display and Smartphone Connectivity

A new five-inch TFT colour instrument panel provides two selectable display layouts. One prioritises sport riding with a prominent tachometer, while the other gives greater visibility to touring information, navigation and rider assistance notifications.

The display shows information including speed, engine speed, gear position, fuel level, estimated range, fuel consumption, temperatures, battery voltage and service reminders. It can also display lean-angle information, rider assistance status and smartphone notifications.

Wireless smartphone connectivity is available through RIDEOLOGY THE APP MOTORCYCLE. Supported functions include vehicle information, maintenance records, GPS-based riding logs and call and email notifications. Turn-by-turn navigation and voice command functions require a valid licence, and feature availability may vary by market.

Touring Equipment and Rider Comfort

The SE LT package includes standard SHAD hard side cases designed specifically for the motorcycle. Each case provides approximately 8.5 gallons of storage and has a maximum load capacity of around 11 pounds. A one-key system allows the cases to be unlocked and removed using the ignition key.

Other standard touring equipment includes hand guards, heated grips, LED fog lamps, a radiator screen, frame sliders, a vented lower cowl and a centre stand. These features add convenience and protection for riders travelling longer distances in changing weather and road conditions.

The rider's seat offers two tool-free height settings of approximately 32.5 and 33.3 inches. The manually adjustable windscreen has seven positions across an adjustment range of approximately 1.9 inches. A 5.3-gallon fuel tank supports longer journeys, while a USB Type-C outlet near the instrument panel provides power for compatible devices.

Kawasaki also offers a 12.4-gallon SHAD top case as a Genuine Accessory. It can be fitted alongside the standard side cases and is designed to accommodate two full-face helmets. Other optional touring accessories include a taller windscreen, a higher ERGO-FIT rider seat and a passenger comfort seat.

Updated Styling for the 2027 Model Year

The new Versys 900 SE LT ABS features revised bodywork with layered panels, sharper edges and a compact front cowl inspired by Kawasaki's Z supernaked models. A triple-LED headlight arrangement uses two upper low beams and a lower high beam, complemented by LED indicators, an LED taillight and an LED licence-plate lamp.

The sculpted side panels and partially exposed engine give the motorcycle a slimmer appearance, while the standard side cases follow the same styling approach. Kawasaki has combined these changes with the touring equipment and chassis revisions to create a motorcycle intended to balance sporty road handling with everyday practicality.

AkulRide Verdict

The 2027 Kawasaki Versys 900 SE LT ABS combines a 948cc inline-four engine, an all-new steel trellis frame, adjustable suspension and an extensive standard touring package. Radar-based cruise assistance, collision warnings and blind-spot detection are significant additions, while the hard side cases, heated grips, fog lamps and adjustable windscreen support long-distance use. With a US base MSRP of $13,599 and expected availability in March 2027, the new Versys offers a technology-focused sport-touring package without relying on electronic suspension.
